Recipes found in:
Beef stew – from Jamie’s Dinners. First time I’ve made this. It’s a basic stew – beef and vegetables cooked very slowly in red wine – the butternut squash is a really nice addition. Before serving, mix together the finely grated zest of one lemon, a handful of chopped rosemary leaves and a finely chopped clove of garlic – sprinkle some of the mixture on each bowlful – absolutely delicious.
Bread – basic breadmaker recipe for white bread, substituting one cup of rye flour for one cup of white flour, and adding a mixture of seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and poppy). Goes well with the stew.
Pavlova – Delia’s basic recipe, from the original Complete Cookery Course. (I’ve just bought How to cheat, which suggests buying meringues from Asda instead. Not sure I’ll bother.)
Brownies – the light chocolate brownies recipe from Mary Berry’s Ultimate Cake Book. This is the best everyday brownie recipe I’ve found (not too expensive, quick and easy to make, freeze well if there’s any left).
